As a cinematographer for National Graphic, Red Bull and other recognizable brands, Scott Gardner seemed to have a life others would dream of. “For the first part of life I pursued my own adventures and desires, not doing much for others,” says Scott, Founder of About Face CLT. But, about 18 months ago, he got asked to be part of a refugee project in Myanmar, and as he was preparing he got connected to Hannah Blanton to discuss fundraising ideas. Also around that time, Scott donated some computer equipment to Piedmont Middle School, when the social worker told him about how money he had previously donated made an impact. “Why am I flying half way across the world to help people, when there is tremendous need in my backyard?” Scott asked himself. That’s how About Face Charlotte was born. Scott and Hannah started using their talents to share stories of the invisible and marginalized in Charlotte. Hannah as the connector and Scott as the story-teller and photographer. They began putting a human face on social issues to encourage individual engagement and action to solve the issues. They received a great response from the stories, and people wanted specific calls to action, so the Blessing Box campaign started. The Blessing Box gives people a tool to engage and cultivates conscious habits of giving.  "We're in a moment in time where we've been inundated with news of violence and strife and people feel helpless, but the blessing box is a vehicle to take individual action and create the world we want to live in.”
